Canada Day at NSC

For Canada Day, NSC gets all decked out in red & white. And while the club doesn't normally host any special Canada Day activities, that doesn't mean it isn't a happening place to be on Canada's birthday. A traveling carnival usually sets up for several days next door at Andrew Haydon Park, and of course, there's the fireworks display after sunset. The carnival usually includes something for everyone from midway rides, a petting zoo and face painting, to band shell entertainment, car shows, cultural events, and a fireworks display. See www.canadadayfestival.com for more information.

The fireworks, set off from Andrew Haydon Park, can be seen from anywhere on the club property; some may wish to enjoy the show from the comfort of the club deck. An added attraction is that you can also see the fireworks from Parliament Hill, off in the distance. Others may wish to take their boats out and watch the show from the water. Just be sure your running lights are working beforehand, and that you're in full compliance with all the rules, as the local police are usually actively patrolling the area to ensure everyone's safety.

Note that regular weeknight racing is cancelled July 1st (depending on which day it falls) and the office is closed. When visiting the club that day, be sure to bring your membership card as city staff will be charging a parking fee throughout the day to everyone entering Dick Bell Park, i.e. turning north off of Carling towards NSC. However, they will not charge you if you have your NSC membership card.

Speaking of parking, it's crazy! All of the asphalt parking is filled, as is the field to the southeast of the club. So at the end of the fireworks, be patient and prepared for a long wait as thousands try to depart all at the same time. This is a great time to visit the NSC bar and wait for the crowds to disperse; some may even wish to spend the night on their boats.
