Midnight Madness Race & Corn Roast
This fun event draws a large contingent of NSC sailors who enjoy not only racing, but also the challenge of sailing at night. The event is open to all PHRF and JAM boats with the warning gun set for 10:30 p.m. The course is usually twice around a simple windward/leeward using the permanent marks. The RC will post the course when on station. Local knowledge of the mark positions is an advantage, however the marks are well lit with glow sticks.
Sailing after dusk is a unique experience which helps to improve not only your ability to steer and navigate using other senses, but also to prepare your crew for any other overnight cruising or racing that you have planned. The necessary safety gear is a requirement, along with a fun attitude.
The race is followed by a corn roast and libations at the NSC bar and includes a great deal of story telling of the night's events. More often than not, Midnight Madness is remembered as one of the best parties of the year at NSC.
Check the Sailing Instructions or any special notice for additional details. Come and enjoy the Madness!
