How to use this site

All hyperlinks on this web site are highlighted in this colour.

The easiest way to familiarize yourself with this site is to look at the Site Map which contains a list of all the major pages and sub-pages, organized by category. Once you have a feel for the site organization, then use the Navigation Bars to find your way around. The main category pages have a left navigation bar. All the other pages have a "Breadcrumbs Trail" navigation bar at the bottom of page to help you find your way.

Search Button To search the entire NSC web site for pages that contain specific words, use the Google search tool by clicking on the search image. It is available on all pages.

Did you notice the Quick links to our most popular pages: [ ... ] GO button drop down menu on the main splash page and all the category pages? It contains links to what we think are the most visited pages. Click on Go Button to view the displayed topic, or click inside the drop-down window then click on a selected topic.

What you need to use this site

The NSC Web site has been designed to permit viewing with older browsers such as Internet Explorer 6. However, stone age browsers like Netscape 4 and IE 5 may not properly render some HTML pages. All Mozilla based browsers like Firefox (the webmaster's favourite - give it a try!), Opera, Konqueror, etc., as well as the Internet Explorer 7+ and the new Google Chrome browsers have full functionality.

This site is enhanced by many JavaScripts that illuminate buttons, pop up windows, dynamically generate forms content, etc. You should therefore use a browser that is JavaScript enabled. If your Browser does not support JavaScript, you will be informed when you load the NSC main page, and do not despair: you will still have access to most of the main features, but not the functions that require validation like form submissions.

If you get JavaScript errors popping up in alert boxes when you put your cursor over a link (boy... time for an upgrade!), then use the plain horizontal Navigation Bar links instead. This Nav Bar is located at the bottom of all pages (like on this page).

if you experience any problem, first click on the Browser RELOAD or REFRESH button while holding down the CTRL key. If the problem persists, please send an email with the error code (if any), and a description of the error or problem to the the Webmaster.

NSC Private Area login procedure

To access the NSC 'Members only' Private Area (which contains minutes, harbour plans, mooring allocations, etc.), you need to authenticate yourself to the server.

To find out what this special username/ password is, you have too log into the on-line BlueBook (given that you are member in good standing) using your membership name and number. Once logged in the BlueBook, you will be given the Private Area username/ password combination.

The good news is, this Private Area username/ password pair will typically change only once a year when the membership is renewed, so login into the BlueBook to get the username/ password should be a rare occurrence. As before, the system remembers your Private Area login as long as your browser is open.

The BlueBook stands on its own and is not included in the Private Area.

Warning: the NSC web host follows a 8 x 5 login protection: 8 failed logins in 5 minutes or less will cause your machine to be blacklisted on the server. Only a request by the NSC webmaster to the hosting service provider will remove this blacklist entry. So, if you failed to log in after 5 attempts, wait at least 3 minutes before trying again.
