NSC - Anti SPAM Measure

Two anti-SPAM measures are in effect on the NSC Web site.

Spammers typically use two complementary methods to harvest email addresses from a web site:

  1. They search and collect all "mailto:" tags used to identify clickable email addresses, and/ or
  2. They search for all strings containing the "@" sign which most likely is part of an email address.

To counter those two schemes, I have replaced all "mailto:user@host.domain" type of tags with a perl script that receives "user at host.domain" for non-NSC addresses, and simply "user" for nsc.ca addresses, and asks for a confirmation before invoking the browser's mailer. I have also replaced all "@" with " at " in all visible email addresses.

These measures in themselves will not block un-sollicited emails, but they will at least prevent automatic bulk gathering of email addresses posted on our web site from now on.

If you experience any problem with using clickable email addresses, please contact the Webmaster.
