Ottawa Youth Sail Training Regatta
(OYSTR)

1. RULES
OYSTR races will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing, the prescriptions of the Canadian Yachting Association, respective class rules, and the OYSTR Sailing Instructions. Rule 41 will be amended to allow on course coaching by coaches registered with the regatta chair and showing required identification on coach boats.
2. ELIGIBILITY
Entrants must be under the age of 18 and have prior sailing experience. No prior racing experience is needed.
3. CLASSES
Optimist, Open Bic, Byte, Laser, Laser Radial, 420. Other classes may be added. Contact the regatta chair more than 30 days prior to OYSTR to request an addition.
4. ENTRY FEE
The entry fee can be paid by cheque, MasterCard, Visa, debit or cash. (Make cheques payable to Nepean Sailing Club.) The fee for single-handed boats is still TBD. The fee for double handed boats is also still TBD. This fee includes a regatta T-shirt and competitor meals.
5. Boat Charter
A limited number of Nepean Sailing Club training boats, are available to participants. Optimists and Open Bics are available for charter for $30 for the regatta, 420s are available at $50. A $100 damage deposit is also required when chartering boats; this will be returned at the end of the regatta if there is no damage to the boat. Charter boats will be reserved on a first come first served basis for pre-registered competitors, and will be allotted by lottery on Friday, August 27th.
6. REGISTRATION
Preregistration by phone fax, e-mail or mail (beginning July 1) to NSC Sailing School administrator is encouraged. On site registration will take place at the Nepean Sailing Club on Friday, August 24th, from 17:00 - 19:00 and Saturday, August 25, from 8:00 - 9:15.
7. SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
Friday, August 24th
19:00 - 19:45 OYSTR coaching seminar for all racers at the Youth Centre.
Saturday, August 25th
08:00-09:30 Boat rigging.
09:30 Competitors meeting.
10:30 Warning flag race #1.
Lunch on the water at the call of the RC.
17:00 - 19:00 Dinner.
Sunday, August 26th
08:00-09:00 Boat rigging.
10:00 Warning flag, first race of the day.
Lunch on the water at the call of the RC.
16:00 Awards presentation.
8. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
Sailing instructions will be available at the on site registration.
9. VENUE
Racing
Races will be held on Lac Deschenes north of the NSC Harbour.
Accommodations
Camping will be available on NSC grounds. Washroom and shower facilities are open 24 hours. Several hotels/motels are within 10 minutes driving.
Food Services
These meals are included in the registration fee for racers: breakfast on Saturday and Sunday mornings in the Sailing School from 08:00-09:00, lunch on the water, dinner on Saturday.
Families and friends can purchase lunch and dinner in the NSC Members' Lounge.
10. PRIZES
Multiple prizes will be awarded in all classes.
11. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.
