Nepean Sailing Club will try to fill positions through career development of current year instructors. However, if there are no qualified candidates, the positions will be advertised here.

Amie Renaud

Amie is in her second year at University of Ottawa studying Conflict Studies and Human Rights. Prior to beginning university studies, she graduated from Paramedicine and currently holds an Emergency Medical Care Assistant Primary Care Paramedic license. Amie has been sailing since the age of 13 on many different kinds of sailboats. Her past sailing instruction experience includes being Head Instructor for the CFB Trenton Yacht Club’s AbleSail program, Quinte Sailability, as well as teaching sailing for a number of years to people of all different ages and abilities.

Amie says, "This will be my first year with the Nepean Sailing Club's sailing school, and I am looking forward to it greatly." "Today was good, today was fun, tomorrow is another one." Dr. Seuss (Reminds us there is always a new day to be discovered)

Oliver Blake

Oliver is excited to be coming back this year for a second summer of race coaching at NSC. A past member of the Ontario Sailing Team, Oliver has extensive racing experience sailing 49ers, 29ers, Club-420s, Lasers and high-performance keelboats throughout Canada and the US. Oliver has also sailed with the RCYC 49er High Performance Team, placing 3rd in the 2010 49er Canadian Grand Prix Circuit. Most recently, Oliver coached Nepean’s High Performance race team in its very successful inaugural season (2011). Oliver is also on the Sailing Team at Queen’s University, where he studies Mechanical Engineering.

Oliver says, "I’m excited to return to NSC for another great summer!"

Kathie Yeo

Katie is in her 3rd year at Concordia University studying Psychology with a focus on sport psychology and exercise science. She has sailed for as long as she can remember starting at the Gatineau River Yacht Club in Chelsea, Quebec and progressing through completion of Silver and Gold levels at Britannia Yacht Club. Katie continued on to race Laser Radials in Toronto at RCYC and also become a member of the Quebec Sailing Team competing in many regattas including: the North American Laser Championships, the Canadian Laser Championships and the Youth Radial Worlds in New Zealand. Throughout her racing career, Katie has gained knowledge and experience which she has used to help continuously improve as a coach. Most recently, she has coached at the Saint Lucia Yacht Club and the Toronto Sailing and Canoe Club.

Katie says, "I believe very strongly that having fun while working hard leads to great success and I am looking forward to being part of the team at the Nepean Sailing Club this summer!"

Jenny Davey

Jenny Davey returns to NSC for a second season this year. Jenny has worked in accessible sailing for 10 years, managing the Association quebecoise de voile adaptee in Montreal, and the Disabled Sailing Association of BC, Victoria Branch. She has extensive experience coaching Martin 16s and 2.4mRs, and has also worked with the CYA to develop accessible initiatives including the creation of the Coaching Athletes With a Disability Professional Module for coaches. Jenny is completing a Masters in Sports Psychology at the University of Ottawa this fall, with a research focus on accessible sport.

Jenny says, "I’m so excited to be back at NSC ABLE-Sail this summer - this is a fantastic program with great sailors and dedicated volunteers that is growing quickly every season. See you this summer!"

Caroline Neasmith

Caroline is going into her first year of civil engineering at Carleton University in the fall. She has been sailing since she was 6 years old on her family's dingy as well as their J80. Caroline has done all of her final sail training at NSC and was also on a high performance team in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Last year she was an ABLE Sail instructor and she is very excited to be coming back for another season.

Caroline says, "I am very excited about this summer, it should be a fantastic season!

Mary Catherine Doran

Mary-Catherine (aka MC) is a 5th year returning coach at NSC. She is also the Laser and 420 fleet representative for the NSC this year. MC still races regularly with her Dad and promotes the Dinghy Wednesday night racing.

MC says, "I am beyond excited to come back again this year, I taught bronze last year and got some kids out to regattas, and will be doing the same this year as well!".

Hayward Peirce

Hayward is a first year Electrical Engineering student at the University of Ottawa. He has spent 9 years Sailing at NSC, four of which were spent sailing 420’s including two years on the NSC Youth Racing Team. He has participated in many regattas and placed 1st as the Hudson Fruitbowl Youth Regatta as well as 5th at the Canadian Youth Sailing Championships hosted by NSC.

Hayward says, "I look forward to running a fun, safe, and educational Bronze Sail program and hope to pass on my love of sailing to all my students!"

Stacey Seymour

Stacey is very excited for another summer of coaching at NSC! A third year student in Concurrent Education/Arts at Queen’s University, Stacey is looking forward to coming back for her third year of coaching at the Nepean Sailing Club Sailing School. Stacey is a lifelong sailor, coming to NSC every summer since the age of 9 when she first started her Learn-to-Sail levels and most recently sailing on the Queen’s University Sailing Team, where she trains and competes with other collegiate level sailing teams from across Canada and the USA.

Stacey says, "I can’t think of a better way to spend a summer than on the water!"

Ken Faurschou

Ken is a first year engineering student at Queen’s. He has developed his sailing skills at both NSC and other clubs since the age of ten and continued with racing even after he started instructing. He also windsurfs and is learning how to kiteboard. This is his third year instructing white sail at NSC.

Ken says, "I hope to give students a great experience as well as the skills to begin a lifelong love of sailing."

Trevor Gardner

Trevor is a grade 12 student at South Carleton High School and was one of the instructors at Nepean last summer. He has been sailing for the past 9 years and is looking forward to teaching CANSail 2 this summer. He wants to make the summer as fun and enjoyable as possible while teaching.

Alison Bell

Alison is going into her second year of Civil Engineering at the University of Ottawa. Alison has been teaching sailing for the past 3 summers and in the winter you can find her teaching swimming and snowboarding. She has also been a part of many sports teams such as track and field, flag football, cheerleading and rugby. Racing at CORK and sailing her 29er have been one of her most memorable sailing moments.

Alison says, "I am looking forward to meeting all the campers at NSC and spending our days out on the water!"

Bryana van Leeuwen

Bryana’s sailing career began 8 years ago in Optis with Nepean’s Learn to Sail program, and she has since moved on to race a variety of boats including Laser Radial and Fireball. During the last three years, she’s had a blast racing for NSC at regattas around the province. When she’s not sailing, Bryana can be found training for cross-country skiing, which she competes in at a national level. For both sailing and skiing, she loves to coach younger athletes and give back to the clubs that have taught her to love these sports.

Bryana says, "Reach for the moon. If you come short, you might land on a star."

Will Seymour

Will Seymour is attending his final year at Nepean High School, and is hoping to study engineering in the fall. He has been sailing since the age of 9, and has spent all but one of the summers since sailing at NSC, including two years on the silver race team. He is also an experienced swim coach and lifeguard.

Callum Smith

Callum has been sailing since he was 8 years old, and has grown through the sailing programs over the years. Most recently he has enjoyed sailing competitively on NSC’s Silver, and High Performance race teams. He enjoys being on the water, and in the sun all summer long.

Callum is excited to be working at NSC this year and says, "Hope to see you around!"

Andrew Faurschou

Andrew is heading to Queen’s next year for his first year of engineering. He has been enjoying sailing since the age of 9 and has experience in many types of boats. In the past couple years, he has raced on the Nepean High Performance and Silver youth race team. Andrew loves to camp and is excited to be teaching Adventure-Sail this summer.

Andrew says, "I am looking forward to all the good memories we’re going to make this year!"

Camilla McGugan

Camilla McGugan is a graduated student from Bell High School who hopes to be studying music at university in the fall. She started sailing around 10 years ago at Nepean and has loved every minute of it. Camilla was on the silver race team for two years and taught the Wet Feet program last year. She is excited to be teaching the program again.

Camilla says, "I am looking forward to this summer. I think it’s going to be great. I love working with little kids and I am excited to be able to pass on my passion for sailing."

Elyse is a fourth year student studying Animal Physiology in the faculty of Sciences at the University of Ottawa. Since first learning how to windsurf in the Caribbean she continued to improve her skills so she could spread her love of the sport through teaching. Elyse has always loved watersports and can’t wait to get back on the water after a long winter!

Elyse says, "I hope to make the windsurfing program a fun introduction for new students as well as challenging to encourage improvement!"

Salaries listed can vary depending on experience and certification, and should follow the CYA published guidelines. There is possibility of combining a daytime teaching position (i.e. Youth or Instructor) with an evening or weekend position (i.e. Adult, Cruising, or Private Lesson Instructor)
