The Secret Racers Regatta

June 13th, 2011 by D. Benoit

Week of July 11th – Secret Racers Regatta

“Secret Racer’s Regatta”

Like a stealth plane, you may find it hard to see, but it is there and it’s exciting!  For 2011 we have integrated the rally into the regular club races so boats can win by racing in the regular club races the week of July 11th, with the added twist of a bit of fundraising and volunteering!! Easy to participate and you have a chance to win great prizes (not to mention the prestige bragging rights for winning the inaugural year) .

Scoring will be determined by combined standings in three “races”

  1. On Water Race: Standing in the regular weekly race the week of July  11th.  Boats racing on more than one night will be scored with their best position. If a club race is cancelled that week, we will use the scoring of the next week when all races are run.
  2. Fundraising Race: Standing in Easter Seals fundraising as of midnight July 11th. The total for the boat, includes any items purchased during the Friday July 15th Auction  so you can help yourself and get great stuff !
  3. Volunteer Race: Standing in terms of percentage of your crew who participate in or volunteer for ES Events (Skippers will be trusted to report for their boat)

Details:

  • Open to all registered racers (Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs) at NSC, BYC and CVGR
  • Will not interfere with regular racing schedule, scoring, race operations
  • Prizes for First, Second and Third place boats based on combined results in the 3 “races”
  • Minimum fundraising is $25.
  • Every participant will receive an Easter Seals Burgee. Please fly it the week of July 11th and if they are available earlier, show your Regatta pride and fly it for the month of July!
  • Raising over $250 makes you a “Pirate” and eligible for 50% off 2 tickets to the Saturday July 16th Luau.  Over $500, you are a “Privateer” and get 2 tickets for free!

Easter Seals Regatta 2011

March 22nd, 2011 by D. Benoit

We are pleased to announce that Nepean Sailing Club and the Britannia Yacht Club will host the Easter Seals Regatta for 2011 and Bring on the Bay Swim on 15 and 16 July 2011.

The event aims to raise funds for local area Easter Seals Families through corporate sponsorship and the efforts of the local boating community and avid –or maybe we should say crazy– swimmers.

One of the main activities is to have a fun day with the kids and their families, which includes a petting zoo, face painting, balloons, and other fun things, including a great BBQ lunch. But the day would not be complete without a pirate-themed day on the water, something the kids look forward to. Beware, it involves many “Arrgh, Mateys, I’ll be running ye through with me sword!”, water guns, lots of water-filled buckets and loads of unbridled laughter. More on that in a later post.

If you wish to know more about what Ontario Easter Seals is doing for local kids and their families, go to the Easter Seals Website.

If you wish to become a Sponsor or register your boat, go to the Easter Seals Regatta Website.
