Annie started sailing in Optimists when she was five. She went on to graduate from Boston College\, where she was named ICSA Women’s College Sailor of the Year in 2011 and was also named US Sailor of the Year in 2015 and competed at the 2016 Olympics in the 470 Class. DESCRIPTION:Adventure Series – From Novice Crew to Ocean Racer: the Race of a Lifetime\nTony recently completed the first leg of the Clipper Round the World Race. He crewed on a 70-foot racing yacht from Portsmouth\, UK to Puerto Sherry\, Spain and onward to Punta Del Este\, Uruguay. \nTony’s boat won the leg convincingly by sailing over 7\,600 nautical miles in just over 36 days at sea. Come to hear about this epic race between 10 identical yachts: the sailing\, the crew\, life below deck and some of the magical moments on the Atlantic. \nThe NSC is well represented in this year’s race\, with 2 other Club members joining on subsequent legs in 2026. Discover how NSC & BYC’s interclub activities offer fun\, skill-sharing\, and mentorship to foster a more inclusive sailing community. \n\n\n\nThe NSC Winter Speaker Series Presents: “Getting Women Involved in Sailing” Wednesday\, January 17\, 2024\, 7:30pm to 9pm Nepean Sailing Club\, Harbourview Hall 3259 Carling Ave\, Ottawa\, ON K2H 1A6 Come early and enjoy a meal at The Galley Restaurant and Bar. See our new menu on The Galley page. \n\n\n\nWe want to encourage more women to come out and experience the joy of sailing.  There are many interclub sailing activities on the Ottawa River in which women\, while having fun\, also share their skills with other women.  The presentation highlights how women can learn new skills and get more involved in our sailing community with the support and mentorship of other women sailors. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKit Holmwood has been a member at NSC for 11 years\, racing Monday evenings for 10 years.  She has taken part in the Social Day Cruising\, as well as taking advantage of courses offered at NSC\, such as the Assistant Racing Officer\, Club Racing Officer\, and Protest Judge.  Kit is NSC Women’s Racing Fleet Representative and a co-organizer of the last 3 Women in Wind. \n\n\n\nLisa Shishis has  been a member of the Britannia Yacht Club for the past 15 years. She has held the position of Commodore on the BYC board for 3 years and was Youth Director for 7 years. She was on the board of CODA for 5 year and has sat on committees with Sail Canada on how to encourage women to participate in Race Committees and become Race Officers. Lisa has been an active participate in the Women’s racing on Monday nights on a Niagara 26 (Rainbow) for the past 10 years and has also participated in the Sail Canada Women’s Keel Boat Championships.  She is the regatta Chair for the Bob Yuile Memorial National Capital Regatta\, ILCA Ottawa Valley Masters as well as the Pumpkin Bowl. \n\n\n\nLisa is a Club Race Officer and waiting for confirmation of her Regional Race Officer certification in mid-January 2024. This will make Lisa the 5th women in Canada to hold the RRO status.  She is also a certified Club Judge. Lisa has been RO and a member of the RC team on numerous events\, including NOD\, CORK\, LYRA 2023\, Viper NAs\, and the J22 Ontario Championships 2023. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSee the NSC Winter Speakers Series list of speakers and topics
