DESCRIPTION:Due to insufficient ticket sales\, the screening is regrettably cancelled. \n\nBuddy Melges: “The Wizard of Zenda” grew up in Zenda\, Wisconsin\, sailing on a lake\, like our kids do. Called “the Leonardo Davinci” of sailing—he honed the ‘art’ more than the science of sailing—he went on to win Olympic medals and world championships. But sailing’s biggest prize eluded him – The Americas Cup. \n\n\n\n“This film is so much more than sailing. It’s about the greatest sailor in the history of the sport\, but it also contains many nuggets about entrepreneurship\, character building and how to harness your ego to play well with others\,” said Executive Producer Anne Peterson. \n\n\n\nSaturday\, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. Nepean Sailing Club \n15% Discount at the Bar and Restaurant to any non-member who shows a movie ticket. \n\n\n\nSee the movie trailer here! \n\n\n\n\n\nThis event is a fundraiser for the Nepean Sailing Club’s Legacy Fund. The Legacy Fund provides financial support for sailors in exceptional sailing activities – youth sailing\, Able sailing\, participation in competitions\, and sail training for new sailors who would otherwise not be able to afford to participate. \n\n\n\nThere have been over 200 pre-release screenings to date around the world. He was inducted into the National Sailing Hall of Fame in 2011 and the World Sailing Hall of Fame in 2015. Yacht clubs and sailing organizations are being offered the opportunity to partner with the movie’s production company to show the film to their membership by paying a nominal per-attendee fee. That fee is reduced if the film is used in a fundraiser to promote sailing. Discover how NSC & BYC’s interclub activities offer fun\, skill-sharing\, and mentorship to foster a more inclusive sailing community. \n\n\n\nThe NSC Winter Speaker Series Presents: “Getting Women Involved in Sailing” Wednesday\, January 17\, 2024\, 7:30pm to 9pm Nepean Sailing Club\, Harbourview Hall 3259 Carling Ave\, Ottawa\, ON K2H 1A6 Come early and enjoy a meal at The Galley Restaurant and Bar. See our new menu on The Galley page. \n\n\n\nWe want to encourage more women to come out and experience the joy of sailing.  There are many interclub sailing activities on the Ottawa River in which women\, while having fun\, also share their skills with other women.  The presentation highlights how women can learn new skills and get more involved in our sailing community with the support and mentorship of other women sailors. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKit Holmwood has been a member at NSC for 11 years\, racing Monday evenings for 10 years.  She has taken part in the Social Day Cruising\, as well as taking advantage of courses offered at NSC\, such as the Assistant Racing Officer\, Club Racing Officer\, and Protest Judge.  Kit is NSC Women’s Racing Fleet Representative and a co-organizer of the last 3 Women in Wind. \n\n\n\nLisa Shishis has  been a member of the Britannia Yacht Club for the past 15 years. She has held the position of Commodore on the BYC board for 3 years and was Youth Director for 7 years. She was on the board of CODA for 5 year and has sat on committees with Sail Canada on how to encourage women to participate in Race Committees and become Race Officers. Lisa has been an active participate in the Women’s racing on Monday nights on a Niagara 26 (Rainbow) for the past 10 years and has also participated in the Sail Canada Women’s Keel Boat Championships.  She is the regatta Chair for the Bob Yuile Memorial National Capital Regatta\, ILCA Ottawa Valley Masters as well as the Pumpkin Bowl. \n\n\n\nLisa is a Club Race Officer and waiting for confirmation of her Regional Race Officer certification in mid-January 2024. This will make Lisa the 5th women in Canada to hold the RRO status.  She is also a certified Club Judge. Lisa has been RO and a member of the RC team on numerous events\, including NOD\, CORK\, LYRA 2023\, Viper NAs\, and the J22 Ontario Championships 2023. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSee the NSC Winter Speakers Series list of speakers and topics

SUMMARY:Alanna Sterling at NSC! Friday Live Entertainment
DESCRIPTION:Alanna Sterling is a gender-fluid\, vocal shapeshifter and multi-instrumental sorcerer.  As an advocate for mental illness\, their ultimate passion is to create musical movements out of moments of struggle\, in hopes to work through life’s adversities and inspire others to overcome their own battles. Hear Alanna Sterling at NSC! \nUpon learning piano at the age of 2\, Alanna made it their mission to pursue the arts in all of its forms – music\, visual arts\, dance\, drama\, literary works. In their teen years\, Sterling took it upon themselves to learn over 40 different instruments and start writing poetry\, as a way to escape from bullying\, trauma\, social anxiety and depression. Music ultimately became their sword and saviour and gave them the confidence they needed to carry on. Songwriting came naturally\, and since the age of 12\, Alanna has composed hundreds of songs\, most of which will remain hidden in a notebook\, never to be recorded. \nCurrently\, Alanna has made their mark as a partnered streamer on Twitch\, under the alias “MermaidUnicorn”\, aka Merms. Merms has gathered a huge loving community of over 49k people from their weekly broadcasts\, and has been able to skyrocket their career into a global platform. \nIn June 2022\, Sterling released a full length album entitled “Mind / Matter”\, which is a heartfelt audio diary of their journey in overcoming their struggles with mental health issues. The genres vary from vaudeville\, rock’n’roll\, folk\, synthwave\, to jazz and everything in between. Each song is a different flavour and experience to reflect a different state of mind.
