Learn to Sail • Beginners

Length: 8 lessons

Session 1: Wednesday and Thursday, 1 to 4 pm – June 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25

Session 2: Wednesday and Thursday, 1 to 4 pm –  July 8, 9, 15, 16, 22, 23, 29, 30,

Session 3: Saturday and Sunday, 9 am to noon –  June 13, 14, 27, 28, July 11, 12, 18, 19

Fees:

  • Member: $   150 + HST
  • Non Member: $   180 + HST

Prerequisites: None

Our beginner program introduces individuals with physical disabilities to the sport of sailing in a friendly, encouraging environment. Following Sail Canada’s CANSail curriculum, basic sailing skills and concepts are taught through lessons in the classroom and on the water. A small class size of 5 people ensures steady progress. Each participant is paired with an instructor or experienced companion sailor in a Martin 16 sailboat equipped with adaptive control systems for sailors with a wide range of physical disabilities.

 

Learn to Sail • Intermediate

Length: 4 lessons, Thursday evening, 5:30 to 9 pm

Session 1:  June 4, 11, 18, 25

Session 2:  July 9, 16, 23, 30 

Fees:

  • Member : $  75  + HST
  • Non Member: $ 90  + HST

Sailboat: Martin 16

Prerequisites: Learn to Sail Beginner Course or equivalent basic sailing skills

Sailors improve their boat handling skills and gain confidence through more practice on the water. At the end of this session, participants should be able to sail in 10 knots of wind around a triangular course on all points of sail with their companion sailor. Sail Canada’s CANSail curriculum is followed.

 

Learn to Sail • Intermediate

Let’s go Sailing Fridays

Length: One day, Friday 10:30 am to 4 pm

Session dates:  June 12, 19, 26, July 10, 17, 31, August 7, 21

Fees:

  • Member : $  30/day + HST
  • Non Member: $ 40/day + HST

Sailboat: Martin 16

Prerequisites: Learn to Sail Beginner Course or equivalent basic sailing skills

A mini training camp style day, but fun and social, this program this program incorporates a morning lecture, lunch together and sail training on the water in the afternoon. It’s designed to improve your boat handling skills, knowledge and build your confidence sailing through more practice on the water. Lunch is not included in the fee.

 

Learn to Sail • Flex Blocks 

Length:  3 hour lesson

Fees:

  • Member : $  30 lesson + HST
  • Non Member: $ 40 lesson + HST

Sailboat: Martin 16

Prerequisites: Learn to Sail Beginner Course or equivalent basic sailing skills

Individual lessons tailored to your sailing level and allow you to work on sailing skills specific to your needs. Lessons are private, 1 instructor :1 participant.

August 6, 13, 20 – Thursday 5:30 – 8:30 pm

Group Demo Sails

For groups serving the disabled and special needs communities, Group Demo Sails allow individuals with physical disabilities or special needs to try sailing in NSC’s Martin 16 sailboats. Please contact us at ablesail@nsc.ca for info and guidelines regarding group visits. The NSC Sailing Club site and facilities are fully accessible.
