It’s that time of year again when our resident birds return to NSC! The Purple Martins arrived on April 16 after completing their 6,000 km journey from Central Brazil. Their two condos were cleaned last fall and filled with pine needles this spring to make nest building a little easier.

Tree Swallows, who wintered in Florida and Central America, arrived about two weeks earlier than the Martins and are now competing for 30+ nest boxes located along the docks.

Our newest addition — the Osprey platform installed three years ago near the sailing school — is still waiting for its first residents. We’ve had some Osprey visitors, but so far, no “takers.” As the saying goes, “If you build it, they will come,” so we just have to be patient!
