Volunteers Needed – Bushtukah Bring On The Bay Swim

Volunteers are needed to help NSC & BYC host the Bushtukah 2024 Bring on the Bay Charity Swim on Saturday, July 13th.

We anticipate 800+ swimmers and plenty of spectators. Volunteers are needed to provide 40+ kayaks, SUPs, and canoes; run 3 NSC crash boats; provide 36+ anchored boats/safety islands (one every 100m along the 3000m & 1500m routes across the Ottawa River & into BYC); and to conduct parking, swimmer and crowd control at NSC, BYC and Britannia Beach.

The 3,000m course will start at the NSC dinghy dock @ 8:00am sharp. Swimmers will head out between the NSC channel markers on a northeast course, follow a line of inflatable race marks and anchored safety boats, and, at the 1,500m mark, make a dogleg right for the final 1,500m stretch to BYC.

This year, again, the 1500m course will start at “Surfers Beach,” a part of Britannia Beach Park. Those swimmers will start @8:45am, swim northwest to join the 3000m course, and will turn right, joining the 3,000m swimmers to finish at BYC.

Volunteer efforts start about 7:00 AM at NSC and you will be finished by 10:30 AM, so it’s an early but not an all-day commitment!

If you are interested and haven’t already contacted me or one of the contacts below, I’d appreciate your help in staging this event (Parke Davis).

We need:

  • Anchored boats (motor or sail), one every 100m along the swim lines:
  • Kayakers, SUPs & others to shadow the swimmers:
  • Crash boats to set up the racecourses and to act as safety boats during the race:
  • NSC Dock Control:
  • NSC Parking & traffic control:
  • Crowd & swimmer information & organizers (4 of 8 needed at NSC and a full complement of 5 needed at Britannia Park. BYC already has all the volunteers they require):
  • All other volunteer jobs:
