NSC Weather Station – Credits

The NSC Weather Station project, initiated in the fall of 2020, was made possible through the efforts of several dedicated NSC volunteers:

Data Acquisition and Visualization

Daniel Servranckx led the design and development of the data acquisition system from the Davis WeatherLink Live (WLL) platform. He created the page layout and content, and implemented the Highcharts-based scripts used to render the interactive charts.

Note: The layout and structure were informed in part by the earlier RBR Weather Station display developed by Yaro Shkvorets, which served as a useful design reference.

Station Procurement, Setup, and Testing

Marek Dziedzic handled the system requirements analysis, vendor communications, and technical documentation. He was responsible for configuring the WLL account, setting up the networking interfaces, conducting hardware testing, calibrating the wind sensor, and contributing to the station mount design. Marek also participated in testing the web interface and application.

Hugh Morrin initiated the project in coordination with the Fleet Captain. He co-authored the specification and mounting design with Marek, secured authorization from the Canadian Coast Guard to install the station on the lighthouse, and helped test and refine the web application. Hugh also coordinated the physical installation with Gene Bruce, NSC's Marine & Property Manager.

Ongoing Maintenance and Operations

Daniel, Marek, and Hugh continue to support the operation and upkeep of both the weather station hardware and the associated web application.

Funding

The Davis Weather Station hardware and the yearly subscription to the WeatherLink Pro Cloud Storage are funded through the NSC Fleet Captain’s budget.
