This on-the-water keelboat race training practice event allows any keelboat owner to try sailing around a short race course – without the stress of competition from other boats.

For 2026, this year Keelboat Race Practice will run on two Friday Evenings: May 22 and 29.
How to participate:
- Each keelboat race training session starts on a Friday evening at 1730 in the NSC Sailing Room with a briefing and review of the format for this on-water event.
- Prior registration is not required, and the event is free of charge.
- Bring your Own Boat and Crew. This year we will also have limited space for crew without a boat to participate
- The practice races are held in the Charlie Racing Area, located between NSC and BYC.
- The first practice race starts at 1900.
- Informal reviews and Q&A may be held after racing in the Galley.
For an overview of the NSC racing program please see the Racing page.
Full details of the event are provided in the combined Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions document, available Here.
