2.4mR World Championship in The Netherlands
The 2026 2.4mR World Sailing Championships took place in Sneek, Netherlands, July 7-12, starting with a huge nautical parade through the town’s canals, complete with a live band and cheering crowds. The regatta was held on the shallow Sneekermeer Lake surrounded by busy ship canals, bringing together 85 boats and sailors from 20 different countries. Race conditions were great, featuring steady 8-to-12-knot winds and excellent organization by the race officials.
Canada’s Representatives Included NSC
With support from the Nepean Sailing Club Legacy Fund, Peter Wood represented Canada and earned a spot in the top “Gold Fleet” alongside his fellow Canadians. Even while adapting to a borrowed charter boat with unfamiliar steering and setup limitations, Peter posted a strong overall performance—highlighted by a fantastic 3rd-place finish in one race—to finish 32nd overall. The event was a great success and provided valuable practice heading into the upcoming North American and Canadian Championships in Victoria.
