The Nepean Sailing Club was well represented at the CORK – Sail Canada Youth Championships this past week, where our youth race team made an impressive showing in the highly competitive C420 class. With 7 boats from NSC competing over four days of intense racing in a fleet of 78 boats, our sailors demonstrated exceptional skill and perseverance.

The regatta format featured two days of qualifiers with daily fleet reassignments and two days of gold and silver fleet racing based on the qualifier rankings. NSC proudly placed 5 boats in the gold fleet and 2 in the silver fleet. Throughout the week, the team trained and raced in a variety of challenging conditions in Kingston, continuing to develop and refine their sailing skills and tactics.

In a remarkable achievement, Joel Voyer and Siqi Zhang clinched first place overall, winning the Sail Canada Youth Championships in the C420 class. This victory is especially significant given that they emerged as champions in a fleet of 79 of the top C420 teams from across the country. To stand at the top of the podium at Canada’s largest youth regatta is a testament to their dedication, talent, and hard work.
