Original Deed, Background and History of the Trophy:
The Kirby 25 Cup was donated by the Kirby 25 Fleet, for the Overall Dinghy Champion.
It is not clear whether dinghies other than Albacores were ever eligible to win this cup, but it appears that it has always been won by an Albacore crew, and in recent memory, it has been awarded for the over Albacore winner.
It was first awarded in 1991.
1991-Present: Overall Albacore winner of all three evening series.
When Albacores qualify for championship scoring (the fleet qualifies for one design scoring in all three series) the Kirby25 Cup is awarded to the Albacore Champion and the Mary Seymour Trophy to the boat that does best in this championship without winning any award in either the championship itself or any of the three series. Otherwise both the Kirby25 Cup and the Mary Seymour Trophy are awarded on the basis of results in the Handicap Dinghy Championship.
