2.4mR CanAm 2024 Events 4&5 – Regatta Report

The 2024 2.4mR CanAm Championship Series (open) wrapped up March 30th at the Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club in beautiful, sunny south-west Florida. This year’s events 4 & 5 included 22 competitors, 9 from Canada including 3 from the NSC. Event 5 was also designated as the US National Championship.

Conditions ranged from hot and sunny with flat water and 20 knots to warm and stormy with big seas and 25 knots to the final day which saw hot and sunny with smooth seas and fading breeze. Again the expertise of the race committee allowed completion of 15 races with shifty, gusty, shore breeze mixed up with sea breeze. Thank you CHYC race committee!

No racoons this trip but we did have dolphins on the race course. As the dolphins are faster than the 2.4mR’s, there was no need to postpone racing on their behalf.

Jeff Linton (USA) and Bruce Millar (CAN) duked it out throughout all 15 races with Jeff taking 1st place in both events and Bruce taking 2nd in both events. It was a tough fought battle with Bruce taking the series overall trophy.

The 2.4mR CanAm Series consists of 5 events held annually during the months of January, February, and March at the CHYC.
