How it started and evolved

Thursday Trivia Nights were started in 2015 following a discussion between member Stephen Grant and then-General Manager Gene Bruce about how to keep the traffic up on Thursday nights after the boats came out of the water in October.

Stephen had started attending trivia nights downtown with his son and thought it might be a good regular attraction to generate traffic and bar & galley sales during the quiet months. They started with a six-week trial run in November of 2015 in the members’ lounge, and interest started to build almost immediately, with a regular turnout of 20 to 30 trivia players, playing in teams of 4 to 6 players. Teams are challenged with a broad range of questions, image rounds, and music clips. The experiment was extended right into the following April, and its popularity continued to grow.

By the autumn of 2016, it was clear we had outgrown the west room, so trivia was moved to the larger Harbourview Hall and the momentum continued. By late 2019, we were regularly getting 75 to 100 players weekly.  Not surprisingly, COVID ended the fun in early 2020, and we were off the air for almost two years. Trivia started up again in the fall of 2022 and continues to run every Thursday night from October through April.  Any changes to the schedule will be announced at https://www.facebook.com/MagnumOpusTrivia

Form a team or come as you are!

Trivia starts with Quizmaster Stephen at 7:00 and wraps up around 9:15, running until the end of April. The Bar and Galley are in operation, so consider coming early for dinner.

Put a team together (maximum 8 players), or just come as you are and we will fit you in with some new friends. No entry fee; prizes for the winners; members and non-members are welcome.
