The 2024 2.4mR CanAm Championship Series (open) kicked off on January 22 at the Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club in beautiful, sunny south-west Florida. This year’s events 1 & 2 included 25 registrants (largest attendance to date), 10 from Canada including all four members of the NSC 2.4mR fleet.

Conditions ranged from cool and 20 knots to hot and dead calm however the expertise of the race committee showed as they still managed to run 15 races.
As any good regatta, these events had their share of bumps and bruises, port-starboard crossings, and windward-leeward calls however these events had extra special ingredients. Thieving racoons made for playful mysteries and uncooperative tides made for extraordinary teamwork, from the RC, the competitors and the volunteers.
The Rubber Chicken was awarded to Peter Norwood for his remarkably consistent, mid-fleet finishes…twice! Peter Eager won the Rubber Pig award for failing to round the offset. He immediately fired it off (literally) to Peter Wood for having saved his bacon…RRRR!! All joking aside, PW deserved extra kudos for outstanding sportsmanship in bringing PE’s mistake to light and sacrificing the win in this long-standing sailor rivalry.

The 2.4mR CanAm Series consists of 5 events held annually during the months of January, February, and March at the CHYC.
