Dinghy Registrants

List Updated: 2018-09-30.

Open/download a pdf of the 2018 list of dinghies registered for racing. Dinghy racers should check this list to confirm that they are registered.

If you are not yet registered, please submit a Race Registration form (pdf or MS Word format) immediately, to ensure that you are scored. Preferred means of submission is scan and e-mail to Race-Registration at nsc dot ca. Please check the box for Wednesday “One Design Dinghy” even if you are not racing on a one design dinghy (we will fix the form for next season). You may also choose to race in Long Distance races that have dinghy classes (check the appropriate box). Be sure to complete page 1 of the form, and sign page 2 before submitting. Contact Race-Registration at nsc dot ca if you have any questions.

The information in the NSC Dinghy Race Registrants spreadsheet (i.e. the “list” noted above) is mostly self-explanatory, but below is an explanation of the column which might not be obvious:

  • SI 21.11: If there is an “N” in this column, it means the boat raced regularly in 2017 but did not do any volunteer RC duty. These boats were notified in early April that they would not be scored until they have signed up for RC duty, in accordance with SI 21.11.

Keelboat Registrants

List Updated: 2018-09-30

Open/download a pdf of the 2018 list of keelboats registered for racing. Keelboat racers should check this list to confirm that they are registered, i.e. that payment has been received for their PHRF fee, that their race registration form has been received, and that their PHRF certificate is valid. If any of the aforementioned are not complete, then the boat will not be scored until their registration is complete.

With the switch to electronic payment, some boats have paid for their PHRF fee, but did not submit a race registration form. If you’re in this situation, please submit a Race Registration form (pdf or MS Word format) immediately, to ensure that you are scored. Preferred means of submission for those who have already paid is scan and e-mail to Race-Registration at nsc dot ca. Be sure to complete both sides of the form, and sign as required.

Racers should note that some PHRF handicaps change each year, as PHRF adjusts handicaps based on the performance of all boats in a particular class. This means that it’s possible you may be racing in a different fleet this year. E.g. a boat that raced in JAM B last year may be racing in JAM C this year, or vice versa.

The information in the NSC Keelboat Race Registrants & PHRF Certificate Holders spreadsheet (i.e. the “list” noted above) is mostly self-explanatory, but below is an explanation of those columns which might not be obvious:

  • SI 21.11: If there is an “N” in this column, it means the boat raced regularly in 2017 but did not do any volunteer RC duty. These boats were notified in early April that they would not be scored until they have signed up for RC duty, in accordance with SI 21.11.
  • Registered: If you’ve paid your PHRF fee*, submitted your race registration form, and completed the process of applying for a PHRF certificate, then there should by a “Y” in this column. If not, then there’s likely something outstanding. *PHRF fee is not required for those few keelboats that only race one-design.
  • Preliminary: If there is a “Y” in this column, it means you have completed everything and the NSC handicapper has issued you a preliminary handicap, but PHRF-LO has not yet updated their database (they’re behind). 95% of the time your new handicap will reflect the preliminary handicap; if it doesn’t, you will be notified. You are good to race.
  • FS ASP: This is the boat’s Flying Sail (spinnaker) PHRF handicap, used for Tuesday night PHRF racing.
  • NFS ASP: This is the boat’s Non-Flying Sail handicap, used for Thursday night JAM racing.
  • PHRF Code: The PHRF handicap code reflects the size of sails, type of propulsion and other factors that determine the boat’s adjustments from the standard handicap (SP) for that class.
  • A “1” in the Women’s, PHRF, JAM or One-Design column indicates that boat is registered for that racing series. Similarly, a “1” in LD-FS column indicates that boat is registered for the Interclub Long-Distance Series using a flying sail; a “1” in LD-NFS column indicates that boat is registered for the ILD Series as a JAM boat.

The above referenced file is essentially a compilation of the information from roughly 150 race registration forms. This list contains thousands of fields and almost certainly contains errors. It is each racer’s responsibility to check the information herein and bring any errors to the attention of the NSC Handicappers. Errors in this list will not be grounds for redress.

Racers can view and download their PHRF-LO certificates on the PHRF-LO website. You can (and should) confirm that your PHRF-LO handicap is correctly recorded. While you’re at it, check the information for your competitors, too. If a handicap on the PHRF-LO website does not match that recorded in this list, please send an e-mail to the NSC Handicappers (unless it’s noted “preliminary”, as explained above).

This list is not updated regularly — note the revision date at the top of the list. However, race registrations and PHRF applications are processed as they are received throughout the summer, and the appropriate scorers are notified accordingly. You should plan on a 2-week turn-around time for processing of race registrations. If you’re inclined to procrastinate, read this.
