Winter Speaker

A discussion of the design & performance of the ships in Nelson’s fleet at this historic naval battle. 

Long time BYC member and well known Ottawa racer Kirk Robertson and his partner fulfilled a 20 year “promise” to themselves by sailing a stock Tanzer 26  (with outboard) to Halifax.

Sailors usually focus on the expensive options of sailing internationally such as buying a suitable boat or chartering, and overlook the fact that with their sailing expertise they would be welcomed as crew by fellow sailors with boats in ports around the world, including Australia with its amazing sailing venues..

Ron Shute and Doris Parolin will help demystify what you need in terms of skills and certifications (ICC and other) to sail your own boat or a charter boat and to join major “big boat” races, on your own or with others in beautiful locations around the world.

Tony Wright will describe a thrilling 2015 bare-boat sailing charter in Thailand, and share  ideas on selecting a charter boat, what to take with you, and how to check the boat over.

Our popular Winter Speaker series continues February 15 with  Matthew Bastian & Fred Horst. They will present their experience sailing the North Channel – a much requested topic.

The survey told us it is the choice of topic that motivates you to come out on a winter night. Here is a summary of what you told us, and the lineup of speakers for the first four weeks of February.

The 2017 Winter Speaker series starts early in the New Year. We already have some great speakers and topics lined up. Before we finalize the list, please help us by spending 2 minutes telling us what topics you would be most interested in, and would get you down to the club on a snowy weeknight!
